Letter “R” and Rainbow Theme Activities

  • Physical activity: run some races (relay races if you have enough participants), or roll down a hill or across the floor
  • Play Red Light/Green Light: Have your child stand across the room or yard from you. When you say “green light” or hold up a green paper or object, they can walk toward you. When you say “red light” or hold up a red paper or object, they must immediately stop. Play with having them hop, skip, or walk in slow motion!
  • Go on a rock hunt and compare sizes (big, medium, small, heavy, light)
  • Sing Row, Row, Row Your Boat
  • Practice rhyming: say a word and help your child rhyme (ending sound is the same) – made up words count for this game, it’s the sound that matters!
  • Flip a rainbow science experiment from Lemon Lime Adventures
  • How’s the Weather? (YouTube – Super Simple Songs)
  • Have a snack or meal this week with only red food (apples, beets, cherries, cranberries, raspberries, red peppers, red potatoes, strawberries, tomatoes, watermelon)
  • Clap a rhythm and have your child echo the pattern. After a few times, see if they can come up with their own rhythm.
