  • Go on a letter sound hunt around the house (look for items that start with the letter of the week)
  • Look at a picture dictionary and talk about words that start with N

SHAPE AND COLOR ACTIVITIES

  • Practice drawing and coloring spirals (download a free printable HERE)
  • Use primary color (red, yellow, and blue) crayons, colored pencils, or markers to trace and color this week.
  • Play with a spirograph to have fun creating spirals

Letter “N” and Nutrition Theme Activities

  • Make nametags to wear this week
  • Read classic nursery rhymes together
  • Print THIS and draw or cut pictures from grocery ads or magazines to find examples of nutritious foods  (1/2 plate fruits and veggies, 1/4 whole grain, 1/4 protein)
  • Practice hammering golf tee “nails” into styrofoam form
  • Use a small net to go “fishing” in a sink, plastic tote, or kiddy pool. Write letters on a few milk jug lids or other small floating items and fish for N’s.
  • Look at a newspaper: open and close, fold, and look for the letter N
  • BBC Learning: What Do Humans Need to Stay Healthy (YouTube-WONKY Films)
  • Make a number maze with tape on floor or chalk outside (child starts at 1 and walks through numbers in order to get to the end)

How to Plant a Hazelnut Orchard (YouTube-CaliforniaAgNet): The content here is probably too advanced for kids, but the visuals in this 4-minute video show a simplified process of preparing and planting a hazelnut orchard.

The Globe and Mail (How the Newspaper Gets Made): The audio content is too much for a preschooler to follow, but the video shows some of the machine process for making a newspaper. Kids should enjoy the fast moving machinery!

Additional Preschool Activities This Week

Have fun in the kitchen together. Let your child choose a new food to try from the produce section of the grocery store. Teach them the names of common kitchen tools: measuring cups, mixing bowl, spatula, or whisk.
