  • Identify the letter E: look for E in books and on signs

  • Look at a picture dictionary and talk about words that start with E

SHAPE AND COLOR ACTIVITIES

  • Go on a shape hunt around the house, outside or in books
  • Practice drawing and coloring ovals (download a free printable HERE)
  • Use a green crayon to trace and color this week
  • Talk about things that are green

Letter “E” and Earth Theme Activities

  • Explore maps. Find where you live, where family or friends live, talk about continents.
  • Exercise together. (Try jumping jacks, squats, push-ups, or sit-ups, play tag, or ride a bike.)
  • Egg race. Balance hard-boiled or plastic eggs (filled with rice or beans for weight) on spoons and have a race from one point to another to see who can finish first with their egg still on the spoon.
  • Listen to a trumpet echo across a canyon on this video from The Conversation. You can also read about what makes an echo.
  • Magic School Bus Inside the Earth (YouTube – Whoa, I Remember That Game!)
  • Talk about electricity. Take a trip around your house and talk about which items use electricity (refrigerator, computer, lights) and which do not (table, bowl, notebook). This video, The Story of Electricity, is a simple introduction to electricity. If your child is interested, this Introduction to Electricity goes into a little more depth.

  • Make an elbow macaroni necklace with some dry pasta noodles and string or ribbon.

Additional Learning Activities

Practice picking up objects with small kitchen tongs or tweezers. Set out a selection of 3D items (toys or small foods like marshmallows or cereal) and have your child practice small motor control by using tongs or tweezers to pick items up and move them.

Preschool Learning Plan

All 26 weeks provide activities promoting letter, number, shape, and color recognition and formation. In addition, you’ll do projects and play games to develop fine and gross motor skills, encourage imagination, and learn new concepts. Your child will learn songs, play games, and work on tasks that require multi-step instructions.

The recommended reading selections are comprised of both “newer” books and award-winning, classic works to expose your child to a variety of authors and well-known titles. Feel free to add to the suggested titles as desired and make your own choices based on your preferences or availability of material.
