Preschool Letter of the Week: C is for Construction

Letter of the Week C

Letter of the Week Theme: C is for Construction

So far in our Preschool Learning Plan, we’ve covered A is for Animals and B is for Beach. Find the complete A-Z outline on the letter of the week preschool plan page. Each week explores a new weekly focus on letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and a theme. Now, we’re exploring C is for Construction!

Print the one-page Preschool Weekly Focus and fit in activities throughout the week. There’s no pressure to have a designated “school” time. Your child should experience learning as an enjoyable, stimulating activity that happens without them even knowing it. They are learning all the time – inside, outside, at the table and in the car. These weekly plans are intended to be a reference for ideas to engage with your child and have fun learning together.

SHAPE AND COLOR ACTIVITIES

Letter “C” and Construction Theme Activities

  • Connect mini marshmallows, raisins, or gum drops with toothpicks to make a structure (make sure your child is ready to use the toothpicks without poking themselves or choose the flat ones that are less pointy)
  • Clapping game: pick a story that has a lot of “C” words (Corduroy or Clifford would work well). Ask your child to clap every time they hear you read the word (“Corduroy” or “Clifford,” for example)
  • Construct towers with LEGO or blocks
  • Play catch
  • Play with nuts and bolts (I let my kids play with the real nuts and bolts, but make sure they have outgrown putting small objects in their mouth!)
  • Top 15 Construction Vehicles for Kids Video (YouTube – ThingsThatGoTV): This is a 30-minute video, so you may not want to watch it all, but if you have kiddos who are fascinated by big machines, it’s pretty great.

Arts & Crafts

  • Make a collage to practice using glue or glue sticks: find pictures in magazines or coloring books, draw your own pictures, or print some from online. You can keep it completely open to their favorite things, or choose a theme like “construction” or “things that start with C”
  • Cut simple shapes from construction paper (squares, rectangles, triangles, half moons, etc.) and have your child glue or tape them onto a page to create a house or town scene. You can find a simple house template HERE.
  • Letter C caterpillar craft from ABC, See, Hear, Do
