Letter of the Week Theme: S is for Safety
Our letter of the week theme today is: “S” is for Safety!” (Find the complete A-Z outline on my preschool plan page.) Along with the letter of the week, we explore, numbers, shapes, and colors. You’ll get song, game, craft, and snack ideas, plus printables!
Print the one-page Preschool Weekly Focus and fit in activities throughout the week. Over the course of all 26 weeks, your child will enjoy classic preschool songs and games, and experience activities to encourage development of both gross and fine motor skills.

Color of the Week = tints (adding white)

Letter Activities
- Identify the letter S: look for S in books and on signs
- Color, stamp, or decorate the letter S (download a free printable HERE)
- Practice writing the letter S (download a free printable for letters S and T HERE)
- Go on a letter sound hunt around the house (look for items that start with the letter of the week)
- Look at a picture dictionary and talk about words that start with S

- Counting practice
- Practice identifying and writing the numbers 13-19 (download a free printable HERE)
SHAPE AND COLOR ACTIVITIES
- Color and decorate cone shapes (download a free printable HERE)
- Color mixing: add white to colors this week to explore tints. (A printable worksheet for this activity is included in my Preschool Curriculum, available in my shop.)
Letter “S” and Safety Theme Activities
- Physical activity: sit-ups, squats, stair climbs, soccer
- Practice skipping
- Letter S Scavenger Hunt: shoe, spoon, salt, stuffed animal, sock, star, scissors, square, something silly (Printable scavenger hunt included in my Preschool Curriculum, available in my shop.)
- Play with slime or silly-putty
- Use chalk to write or draw on sandpaper
- Make a sticker scene (sports, superhero, or seashore theme)
- Superhero game: pile up shoeboxes (or any empty boxes) to make a wall and let your superhero jump over it or kick it down
- Fire Safety Rap (YouTube – Harry Kindergarten Music)
- Safety Song (YouTube – Education Station)
- Talk about STOP, DROP, & ROLL, role play calling 9-1-1, crossing the street safely

Let’s Visit the Fire Station (YouTube – Caitie’s Classroom): Visit to a Canadian fire station, approximately 5 minute video.
LEGO Construction Site (YouTube – Alexander Studios): A few silly moments with a worker trying to take a nap, but fun LEGO depiction of constructing a skyscraper.
