Letter of the Week Theme: M is for Music
We’re halfway through our Letter of the Week Preschool Plan—“M” is for Music! (Find the complete A-Z outline on my letter of the week preschool page.) Along with the letter of the week, we explore, numbers, shapes, and colors. You’ll get song, game, craft, and snack ideas, plus printables!
Print the one-page Preschool Weekly Focus and fit in activities throughout the week. Over the course of all 26 weeks, your child will enjoy classic preschool songs and games, and experience activities to encourage development of both gross and fine motor skills.

Letter Activities
- Identify the letter M: look for M in books and on signs
- Color, stamp, or decorate the letter M (download a free printable HERE)
- Practice writing the letter M (download a free printable for letters M and N HERE)
- Go on a letter sound hunt around the house (look for items that start with the letter of the week)
- Look at a picture dictionary and talk about words that start with M

Number Activities
- Counting practice
- Practice identifying and writing the numbers 1-10 (download a free printable HERE)
- Thread 10 pony beads onto a pipe cleaner and roll the ends to keep them from falling off. (Make multiple rows of 10 in different colors if desired.) Practice counting to 10 with the beads.
SHAPE AND COLOR ACTIVITIES
- Practice drawing and coloring music notes (download a free printable HERE)
- Use black crayons, colored pencils, or markers to trace and color this week.
Letter “M” and Music Theme Activities
- Physical activity: monkey bars, march in time to music
- Roast marshmallows
- M&M math graphing and color identification from Ducks ‘n a Row
- Musical grand staff: review letters A-G in conjunction with identifying notes on a piano or keyboard. Susan Paradis has an amazing free grand staff printable to practice on.
- Introduce money: coins and bills, identifying pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters
- Make your child a morning routine visual checklist
- Listen to music by Mozart
- Sing the classic Mary Had a Little Lamb
- Talk about manners: please and thank you, I’m sorry, don’t interrupt, table manners
