The letter of the week focus today is F is for Fall! (Find the complete A-Z outline on the letter of the week preschool plan page.) Along with the letter of the week, we explore, numbers, shapes, and colors. Each week incorporates songs, games, crafts, and snack ideas.

Print the one-page Preschool Weekly Focus and fit in activities throughout the week. Over the course of all 26 weeks, your child will enjoy classic preschool songs and games, and experience activities to encourage development of both gross and fine motor skills.

Letter Activities

  • Identify the letter F: look for F in books and on signs
  • Color, stamp, or decorate the letter F (download a free printable HERE)
  • Practice writing the letter F (download a free printable for letters E and F HERE)
  • Go on a letter sound hunt around the house (look for items that start with the letter of the week)
  • Look at a picture dictionary and talk about words that start with F
  • Letter F activity at www.starfall.com

Number Activities

  • Identify the numbers 1-5: gather groups of items (1 box, 2 stuffed animals, 3 socks, 4 spoons, 5 crayons) and count them out. Have your child identify how many boxes, how many stuffed animals, etc.
  • Practice identifying and writing the numbers 1-5 (download a free printable HERE)

SHAPE AND COLOR ACTIVITIES

  • Practice drawing and coloring crescents (download a free printable HERE)
  • Talk about moon phases. Tip a bowl upside down and trace 3 circles on white paper. Leave one circle “full,” then cut the others to be half and crescent moons. Have your child glue on black or dark blue paper. Tape them up on three different walls, call out “full” “half” or “crescent” and have them run to touch the right one.
  • Eat crescent rolls.
  • Use an orange crayon to trace and color this week.
  • Talk about things that are orange.

Letter “F” and Fall Theme Activities

  • Make a family tree. Draw a simple tree shape on posterboard and use pictures to make a family tree.
  • Play with a football or frisbee.
  • Play follow the leader and take turns being the leader. Followers go where the leader goes, and copy the motions of the leader.
  • Play with finger puppets.
  • Make your own flashcards. Work together to make a set of flashcards for colors, numbers, or letters. Cut cardstock in half horizontally and vertically to make four flashcards per page.
  • Four Seasons video: Introduction to spring, summer, fall, winter (YouTube – English Singsing)
  • Sing Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.

**You may need to try a virtual field trip at this point in time. Here are a few possibilities:

Classic Sesame Street – Crayon Factory: This is an old video, but it is perfect. It gives preschoolers a glimpse into the process of machines processing material, and what better object than a familiar crayon!

Additional Preschool Learning Activities

Have your child practice writing their name. You can find an editable printable for name writing practice at Fun Learning for Kids.

Fine motor skills development: have your child put plastic straws, stir sticks, or spaghetti noodles through the holes of a colander.

Preschool Learning Plan

All 26 weeks provide activities promoting letter, number, shape, and color recognition and formation. In addition, you’ll do projects and play games to develop fine and gross motor skills, encourage imagination, and learn new concepts. Your child will learn songs, play games, and work on tasks that require multi-step instructions.

The recommended reading selections are comprised of both “newer” books and award-winning, classic works to expose your child to a variety of authors and well-known titles. Feel free to add to the suggested titles as desired and make your own choices based on your preferences or availability of material.
