How to Dress in 5 Minutes or Less

how to dress clothes

It is possible to dress in 5 minutes or less (and look great)…if you put in a little advance prep.  I used to try on, and discard in frustration, multiple outfits in the morning. With my current system, getting dressed is a snap. Here’s how I dress in 5 minutes or less.

About twice a month, after laundry is done and clothes put away, I put together outfits, complete with all accessories, ready to be put on in 5 minutes or less!  As you repeat this process, it becomes quicker and easier each time if you take pictures of your outfits.  I do this on Sunday afternoon, but choose a time that works for you.

HERE’S THE PROCESS…

  • Look at the extended weather forecast to keep in mind for the next week or so.
  • Start with a bottom – pants or skirt, and try it on.
  • Add a top that works well with those pants or skirt – try it on.
  • Add accessories or additional items.  This can include jewelry, tights, socks, camisoles, scarves, shoes, purses, belts.  Anything that I would choose to wear with this outfit.  Try it all on.
  • Snap a picture of yourself wearing the entire outfit.
  • Put everything together on a hanger except for shoes and possibly purses.
  • Repeat this process to create outfits for each day of the week.  You can plan just for weekdays if your weekends are more casual.
  • Decide which outfit you would like to wear each day and hang them up in that order.

I create enough outfits to cover a couple of weeks. Then the next Sunday, I glance through to make sure I have my outfits hung up in the order I want to wear them.  Removing all those decisions makes mornings so much easier.

USE PICTURES

If you can’t remember which shoes you wanted to wear with a particular outfit, you can look at the picture you took when you tried it all on.  Once you’ve built up a supply of outfit pictures, you don’t have to try everything on anymore. Just scroll through your pics, pull out the clothing and hang it up together, and you’re all set!

Dress your kids in 5 minutes or less

I go through this process for my daughters also, except I don’t make them try on all the clothes! The oldest one chooses her own outfits, but the younger two still like me to choose their clothes most of the time. On Sundays, I choose their clothes for the week and put them in a separated clothing organizer for Monday thru Friday. When they get up they just grab the outfit for the day. Having outfits put together for them makes mornings less stressful in our house, and to less stress I say “yes!”

So, now you know how to dress in 5 minutes or less. Enjoy an extra cup of coffee or do some morning yoga – you’ve got the time!
