The letter of the week focus today is “G” is for Grocery Store! (Find the complete A-Z outline on my letter of the week preschool plan page.) Along with the letter of the week, we explore, numbers, shapes, and colors. Each week also incorporates songs, games, crafts, and snack ideas.

Letter of the Week Activities
- Identify the letter G: look for G in books and on signs
- Color, stamp, or decorate the letter G (download a free printable HERE)
- Practice writing the letter G (download a free printable for letters G and H HERE)
- Go on a letter sound hunt around the house (look for items that start with the letter of the week)
- Look at a picture dictionary and talk about words that start with G

Number Activities
- Count to six using grapes, gum, or Goldfish
- Practice identifying and writing the number 6 (download a free printable HERE)
SHAPE AND COLOR ACTIVITIES
- Practice drawing and coloring arrows (download a free printable HERE)
- Have your child draw arrows to direct traffic for their toy cars this week.
- Use a brown crayon to trace and color this week.
- Talk about things that are brown.
Letter “G” and Grocery Store Theme Activities
- Play “Go Fish“
- Talk about when we say good morning, good night, and goodbye.
- Play grocery store using empty cereal boxes, cracker boxes, spice containers, etc. Give them Monopoly money and a basket or reusable bag to make purchases at a makeshift checkstand.
- Place 6 grocery store items on a cookie sheet. Show them to your child, then cover them up after 10 seconds. See how many they can remember. Try this with random household objects too
- Look at a grocery store ad together and identify food items. Look for letters and numbers too.

Letter “G” and Grocery Store Theme Arts & Crafts
- Practice “dot, dot, not a lot” method for using glue. Give your child a piece of cardstock or construction paper and let them use standard white glue to attach various weights of paper, scraps of fabric, and an assortment of small objects (beads, plastic gems, pieces of plastic straws, pipe cleaners, foam pieces, etc.). Get them used to using a dot of glue and pressure make their items stick.

Additional Preschool Learning Activities
Have your child practice scooping and pouring with dry rice or beans. Use measuring spoons, cups, coffee scoops, ice cream scoops, and plastic cups to work on motor control, following directions and counting.
Let your child pick out a new food to try from the grocery store. Practice identifying shapes, and identifying numbers on the aisle number signs.

Feel free to add to the suggested titles as desired and make your own choices based on your preferences or availability of material.
