Our letter of the week theme is “X” is for X-Ray!” Along with the letter of the week, we explore, numbers, shapes, and colors. You’ll get song, game, craft, and snack ideas, plus printables!

  • Go on a letter sound hunt around the house (look for items that start with the letter of the week)
  • Look at a picture dictionary and talk about words that start with X

Letter “X” and X-Ray Theme Activities

  • Physical activity: exercise on X’s (put tape on the floor in the shape of an X and have your child do exercises at each one, Simon Says style)
  • Play tic tac toe (X’s and O’s)
  • Play X marks the spot: make a treasure map of your home or yard and have your child find the treasure marked by the X. The treasure could be a favorite food, new pencil, or small toy. Help your child learn how to identify objects on a map and orient themselves from there to where the X is located.
  • Cut a pipe cleaner (chenille stem) in half and lay across one another to form an X. Practice twisting them together to make the X stay.

  • Watercolor painting: tape off the first letter of your child’s name on canvas or heavy cardstock, then let them paint the surface with watercolors (see an example at Blissfully Domestic)

  • make X’s with food (carrot sticks, snap peas, pretzel sticks)

Creative play with boxes: build a fort, make a car, or a puppet theater with a big box. Make a doll bed, animal cave, or trinket box with a small box.
