Anyone else running the dishwasher waaayy more than you did before we were all staying at home? And stocking the fridge with all your cooking and baking experiments? I needed to make a refrigerator Leftovers List for two reasons.
First, my family always stands at the refrigerator door staring blankly at its contents like they’re waiting for something to literally jump into their mouths. They need a list to help them remember that last night’s leftovers are a delicious lunch option, as opposed to yelling across the house, “Mommmm…I’m hungry…what can I eat?”
Second, when I make a meal, I always cook enough to feed our family for at least two meals. Which means LOTS of leftovers. I usually take a little time on the weekend to meal plan for the week ahead, and I have frequently overestimated the meals I need to cook because I didn’t account for the leftovers we needed to use up.
In the past, I’ve slapped post-its and scraps of paper on the fridge to write down leftovers, but I never stuck with it because I like things to be pretty, and it just wasn’t pretty. So today I made a pretty refrigerator Leftovers List. The blue works perfectly with my kitchen, but I made a red one just for fun too!
It’s on my fridge, with my leftovers listed, and I’m ready to meal plan tomorrow. With the way my fridge is stocked, I may only have to cook twice. The dishes, however, just never quit!
You can download a free printable Leftovers List for your refrigerator too! They print two to a page on standard 8.5×11 paper. Leftover listing problem solved. Unfortunately I can’t guarantee your people will cross things off the list when they eat them (sigh) . Baby steps…
