November Birthstone
November’s birthstone is citrine, which is a variety of quartz that comes in shades of yellow and brownish orange. It is often mistaken for topaz, which is the other official birthstone of November. Citrine is very rare, so most of the citrine we find in modern times comes as a result of heat treatment applied to amethyst.
Topaz is also a November birthstone and comes in a wide range of colors including orange, pink, red, blue, and green, although it is most commonly known in its yellow and brownish forms. In ancient Greece, people believed that topaz gave them strength.
November Flower
The traditional birth flower for November is the chrysanthemum, commonly referred to as mums. These beautiful flowers provide spectacular fall color and are highly associated with the autumn season.
In general, chrysanthemums symbolize loyalty, friendship, and joy, but each color can have specific meaning of its own. Chinese art traditionally uses the chrysanthemum as one of the four flowers representing the four seasons, along with plum blossom, orchid, and bamboo. It is the national flower of Japan.
