February Birthstone
February’s birthstone is amethyst, a purple stone that can range from pale lilac to deep purple with red undertones. Amethyst stones were believed to have a calming influence.
February Flower
February has two associated birth flowers—violets and primroses. These flowers are among few that bloom in the cold winter months.
The name primrose is derived from the Latin primus, meaning first—appropriate as primroses are one of the first flowers to bloom at the first signs of spring. This flower has been associated with many medicinal and culinary uses. Primrose is toxic to some animals, like dogs, cats, and horses, but edible for humans.
